From May 7 to May 9, 2026, within the framework of the Innovative Artificial Intelligence in Quality Assurance Management for Higher Education in Viet Nam Project (InnoAIQA-VN), under the DIES – National Multiplication Trainings (NMT) 2025–2026 Program, Workshop 2, entitled “Application of AI in Quality Assurance in Higher Education: Opportunities, Challenges, and Ethical Aspects,” was held at Tay Nguyen University, Dak Lak Province.
Workshop 2 was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Quynh Lam, Director of the Center for Education Accreditation, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City; Mr. Benjamin Jung, an AI expert from the University of Potsdam, Germany; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Duc Niem, Vice Rector of Tay Nguyen University; Dr. Duong Van Thinh, President of AI & Data Center Vietnam; MSc. Ho Dac Hai Mien, Deputy Director of the Center for Education Accreditation, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City and Head of the InnoAIQA-VN Project; together with project members including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Phuong Truong from Lac Hong University, Dr. Nguyen Thi Huyen from the University of Science, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, and Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. Notably, Workshop 2 also brought together 20 lecturers, leaders, and educational managers from nine higher education institutions participating in the project nationwide.
Workshop 2 was one of the key activities of the InnoAIQA-VN Project. It was implemented to create an academic forum for discussion and practical sharing on the application of AI in quality assurance in higher education. Through thematic sessions, discussions, and group activities, the workshop aimed to connect leaders, managers, and experts in the field of quality assurance, while providing a space for higher education institutions to exchange experiences and identify opportunities, challenges, and ethical issues in applying AI to higher education.
This activity also contributed to realizing the overall goal of the InnoAIQA-VN Project, which is to enhance the capacity of leaders and managers at higher education institutions across the country to effectively integrate AI into quality assurance processes. In doing so, the project seeks to improve organizational efficiency, promote the ethical use of AI, and gradually establish a sustainable professional network to foster innovation in quality assurance management in higher education.
On the first working day, participants joined a series of in-depth thematic sessions focusing on core issues of higher education quality assurance in the context of digital transformation. The topics discussed included internal quality assurance systems at higher education institutions; AI competencies for learners and staff; ethics and challenges in AI application; the development of AI-integrated QA data repositories for program assessment and improvement; and issues related to data security and safety in the use of AI.
The working sessions created an open academic exchange environment, promoting connections between theory, management practice, and implementation experience at higher education institutions.
The second working day continued with discussions on AI policy and regulatory frameworks, international experience shared by Germany, and exchanges among higher education institutions in Viet Nam.
A highlight of the program was the talk show “Changes and Impacts of AI on Internal Quality Assurance in Higher Education in Viet Nam – Sharing Good Practices,” with the participation of experts and representatives of leaders from higher education institutions. The discussion provided diverse perspectives on the impact of AI on quality accreditation, data governance, decision-making support, and the development of a quality culture in higher education. Various practical implementation models, lessons learned, and ethical issues in AI application were also shared and discussed in depth.
In addition to academic activities, the workshop also included a field experience program entitled “Asset-Based Community Development: The Story of the Indigenous Coffee Value Chain in the Central Highlands.” This activity helped strengthen exchanges and connections among participants, while introducing cultural values and community development models associated with the distinctive identity of the Central Highlands region.
The final working day focused on project progress reporting by participating groups. Representatives of higher education institutions presented the results of AI application activities implemented at their institutions through reporting sessions and project poster exhibitions. The shared contents demonstrated diverse approaches and the potential for applying AI in management, quality assurance, and decision-making support at individual higher education institutions. This activity clearly reflected the spirit of cooperation, innovation, and mutual learning within the InnoAIQA-VN project community.
Workshop 2 concluded with a closing session and the awarding of certificates to participants. Both Workshop 2 and the overall InnoAIQA-VN Project were highly appreciated by participants not only for their updated and practical academic content, but also for their role in fostering connection, experience sharing, and the development of a professional community on AI in quality assurance in higher education in Viet Nam.
The InnoAIQA-VN Project has concluded an important phase of activities with many positive outcomes, while opening up expectations for the continued dissemination of innovative initiatives and the promotion of effective, responsible, and contextually appropriate AI applications in the digital transformation of higher education in Viet Nam.
