Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Curriculum Review and Updating at Ton Duc Thang University: A Reflection from TDTU

Participating in the InnoAIQA-VN project was a meaningful professional journey for us as representatives of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). The project not only provided opportunities for learning and practicing artificial intelligence (AI) with experts and colleagues from country-wide institutions, but also inspired us to leverage AI as a robust tool to enhance TDTU’s internal quality assurance (IQA) system.

One of the most important lessons we have learned from the project is that AI should not be used as a “quick solution” or a replacement for human responsibility. AI can only create value when it is connected with clear processes, reliable data, ethical principles, and the real needs of users. This message was especially relevant to IQA, where evidence, transparency, and continuous improvement are essential.

For TDTU, the project had practical impact by coaching us to develop T-CORA (TDTU Curriculum & OBE Review Assistant), an AI-supported tool for reviewing and updating study programmes. Our team combined QA expertise with technical support, tested the tool during piloting, produced user guidelines, standardized QA templates, and provided support for faculties. Beyond the technical solution itself, T-CORA has transformed our approach - fostering a more systematic, data-informed, and collaborative environment for curriculum review.

The project also changed our mindset about AI governance at the institutional level. Our journey taught us that putting AI into practice goes far beyond writing guidelines; it requires building infrastructure readiness, continuous training, pedagogical reform, and a system for continuous monitoring. At TDTU, this means continuing to foster AI literacy across lecturers, staff, and students; developing a clear guidance on ethical AI use; reinforcing data security and privacy; and empowering faculties to adapt institutional policies to their specific disciplinary contexts.

Finally, the TDTU team wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the project organizers for their exceptional management, well-structured timeline, and highly relevant themes that perfectly aligned with our expectations. We are immensely grateful to the project team, whose enthusiasm, unwavering support, and generous sharing of profound expertise and practical experience truly inspired us.

The innovative approach of the project - moving from awareness-raising keynote speeches to hands-on experiential practices, followed by mentor-guided real-world projects and cross-institutional experience sharing - created an invaluable learning environment. Ultimately, this comprehensive initiative not only significantly enhanced our professional capacity but also successfully forged a robust network among QA teams from universities nationwide.
